The Dino's Diet

What did dinosaurs like to eat? What would they eat today, if they visited your garden? And what can we learn from that? The Dino‘s Diet imaginatively explores what dinosaurs would eat if they were alive today. Inspired by my family’s recovery journey with the healing power of food, the book encourages children to learn about food. It functions as a storybook and an educational tool to discover with children that it matters what we eat. May this book encourage you on your journey! Love, Annette

"The artwork is adorable, the rhymes engaging, and the education top-notch."

„The Dino‘s Diet is a thoughtful and creative book. With its original and endearing illustrations and gentle approach, it encourages conscientious parents and children to connect and have meaningful conversations about food.“– Paula Gray, digital editor EcoParent Magazine, Canada

„What a wonderful idea for a children‘s book! Real food can be powerful medicine, but it‘s often not what children crave. With dinosaurs as role models, that can change. The artwork is adorable, the rhymes engaging, and the education top-notch. I can imagine kids roaring happily as they eat their broccoli!“ –Eileen Laird, author & founder of Phoenix Helix, USA

„The Dino’s Diet is such a creative way to teach children the importance of eating a well-balanced diet. The verses and illustrations are beautiful. Well done, Annette!“ –Yasmine Mason, DC, founder of Fermentation Farm, Costa Mesa, California, USA

Q&A about The Dino's Diet

  • Why did you change your diet?

My son suffered from life-threatening bronchial asthma. When conventional medical treatment failed to help, my family and I turned to food for healing. As a result, our son recovered from bronchial asthma with great success. In just three weeks my family had noticed unbelievable improvements. He started to speak more and was mentally more present. After three months we were able to stop all medication.

  • How did you start your diet change?

There are many ways to start changes. For my family, we have chosen a quick change - literally overnight. After watching the documentary Food as Medicine (directed by Lenore Eklund), I cleared my kitchen the same night. We were desperately longing to become a healthier family, so we started right away. I bought books and tried out a lot of new recipes.

  • How did your child learn what to eat?

When we started to change our diet in 2018, I knew that I couldn’t do it on my own without some creative help. My son has been a true enthusiast of dinosaurs since he received his first dinosaur book when he was eight months old. It became clear to me that these amazing creatures would be wonderful helpers on our journey. When I couldn’t find the book I had in mind, at the stores or online, we started to paint and write‚ The Dino's Diet on our own. We visited and studied the dinosaurs in museums, books, parks, and libraries. They have become our passion and we are amazed by what we can learn from them.
As parents, we do our best, and sometimes it helps to let our children know that we don't know everything. Learning is a lifelong process that we can embrace together.

  • Who should read The Dino's Diet

Every dinosaur fan will enjoy the stories of Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and co. If you're interested to change the diet habits in your family, or you just want to motivate your kids to try new food - this storybook can be a helpful tool to talk with children about our food.

  • Where can I learn more about the Paleo Diet?

My family's healing journey began with the life-changing documentary Food As Medicine, (directed by Lenore Eklund). At the beginning of our diet change, I often felt overwhelmed by the amount of information. Soon I discovered that there is an amazing, worldwide movement that is growing constantly as more and more people seek natural ways to live and heal. There are many wonderful leaders and pioneers in the Paleo Community, and a ton of great recipes online and on social media. I admire the work of Eilleen Lard. Her podcast inspired and helped me a lot at the beginning of our journey. You can find her podcast, recipes, and more at Pheonix Helix.
